Contract for a documentary with the working title "Raw Perceptions" with five episodes (lots) within the project VECTOR
The Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), with the support of Satarla, publish a tender for applicants to produce one or more 'Lot' episodes (out of five) that will be collated together to make 'Raw Perceptions' (working title), a documentary illustrating different perceptions relating to the sustainable supply of critical raw materials and their role in the green transition. Commissioned as part of VECTOR, an EU Horizons and UKRI co-funded research project. Please see further details on

Purpose of the documentary
- Increase awareness of where primary raw materials are sourced from and the challenges that are faced in their sourcing.
- Understand why different stakeholders have different perspectives and feelings regarding the sourcing and use of raw materials.
- Inspire individuals to contribute their solutions to, and become involved in, improving the responsible supply of primary raw materials.
Implementation: The documentary will be produced as a series of 5 episodes, which will be turned into a feature length film by Satarla.
Interviews and engagement with identified key stakeholder groups may be released as individual episodes with the VECTOR project's approval.
Language of the episodes: English
Length of each episode: 10 to 15 minutes optimum, minimum 10 minutes
Format of the episodes: All common video formats
Additional Information: As a feature length film the documentary narrative could follow a flow such as:
- Introduction to the roles of critical raw materials in the green transition, and their necessary mining;
- Interviews and engagement with stakeholder groups to explore the challenges involved in the extraction of critical raw materials and attitudes towards mining;
- Conclude with a synthesis of possible future outcomes that could deliver shared value to each stakeholder group.
Interview targets: The documentary aims to interview and engage with members of each stakeholder group listed below operating at local, national and international levels within Europe to make the five 'Lot' episodes:
'Lot' episode 1) Members of the general public with a diversity of perspectives
'Lot' episode 2) Mining sector professionals with a diversity of perspectives
'Lot' episode 3) NGOs or other organisations with a diversity of perspectives (including those who hold more negative perceptions about the industry)
'Lot' episode 4) Policy makers and advisors engaged with the mining sector with a diversity of perspectives
'Lot' episode 5) Academic researchers from (multiple) disciplines engaged with the mining sector
Delivery of the documentary and criteria for successful completion
- Final delivery: No later than 5th November 2024.
- The completion of the lot(s) won must be fulfilled to receive the payment.
Application conditions
- Maximum Award: 20.000,00 EUR net per episode. Proposals containing higher cost estimates will lead to exclusion.
- Bidders can apply for individual, multiple, or all episodes.

100% of the purchase price once the lot(s) won have been completed and have been confirmed by the HZDR
